Meet Jennifer

A Student's Story

Jennifer is a Senior citizen who wanted to learn how to create and send text messages and make video calls to her grandchildren. She had past problems with her vision and could not see the fine print. When Jennifer decided to attend my class, she told me she was afraid to use her phone and computer because she may break them. She would ask her family members to help her. Due to their busy schedules, it wasn’t easy to contact them by phone or have them help her learn. She felt isolated and alone.

When she found out about my classes, she thought she’d give it a try and sign up. After some weeks in my class, I noticed she began to smile and interact with people in the class. She was losing her fear as she learned step by step how to make video calls, text, listen to music and do other things she loved.

Jennifer’s family was so happy to see her contacting them by text, and video calls; they couldn’t believe it! During her visits, her doctor noticed her blood pressure was down, she was happier. She told the doctor she was learning how to use her phone and felt good about it and it made life easier for her in certain tasks she needed to do. I was happy to see Jennifer’s transformation from fear and loneliness to happiness and losing her fear of technology.
